TV动画《Free!男子游泳部》的首部剧场版《High Speed!Free!Starting Days》，讲述主人公们升入初中后，继续在游泳部奋斗的青春故事。

剧场版《High☆Speed：Free! Starting Days》以《Free》的小说原作，由大路小路创作的《High☆Speed》为基础制作。讲述主人公们少年时代的故事。监督改为《冰果》和《甘城辉煌乐园救世主》的武本康弘。角色设定与TV动画版一样，仍然是西武太志。主要角色的声优也保持不变，依然是岛崎信长出演七濑遥，铃木达央出演橘真琴，宫野真守出演松冈凛，代永翼出演叶月渚。

記憶についての映画である。しかし人間が持つ記憶ではない。場所に宿る記憶、堆積した時間とも言える。ありふれたテーマだが、本来目に見えないこれらの観念をイメージとして表現する事を試みた。映画を撮ること自体が、失われていく時間を捕らえる行為でもあると思ったからだ。一人の女の生活をモチーフにした。堆積した日常は部屋にあり続ける。
